Spring in the vineyards: where growth and healing connect

As the days warm up I always find myself getting nostalgic for the vineyards. It's a perfect time to be working outside. Warm, not too buggy, a little damp but no snow, and no pressures of harvest around the corner.

As I go back and look through my pictures from working the vines at Blomidon, this year I'm so grateful for that time. I'm so proud of myself for working as hard as I did, achieving dream after dream. I worked those vines through pregnancy, loss, joy and grief. They will always be in my soul.

When I was first pregnant, I was just a few months into working at Blomidon. The vineyard manager was the second person to know. He was so happy for me. I also got a dreaded phone call from my doctor while working in those vines. I moved along, and worked the following year, pregnant again. I worked in those vines until I was 8 months pregnant, and was back again 6 months postpartum, this time with my baby in daycare. And every step along the way, I was supported by my family in the vines at Blomidon.

I've written this story out so many times and always shied away from sharing it in my business. But growth and loss and grief have been the biggest drivers that lead me to Wine & Vine. It wouldn't be here without all those experiences.

Wine in general is about connection to our earth, ecosystems, special places around the world, and above all else, people. The individuals who work in the vineyards and wineries are who make the wine so special. We need these connections in our lives. Remaining isolated is devastating. I know I just do wine tours, but they're so much more than that. Its all about building relationships and connections to this province, the wineries that we visit and each other. The time you take is so important.

Spring is a time of rebirth in the vineyard. The vines have overwintered and survived. They've been cut back, and tied down, ready for bud break.

There is so much excitement around the wineries this time of year with new vintages being released. We're welcoming people back to the tasting rooms and all collectively coming out of our winter slumbers.

I know the summer FEELS like the perfect time for a wine tour, but you will never convince me that spring isn't where it feels the best for your soul.
